U.S. Senators Susan Collins and Angus King announced Wednesday that the China Village Fire Department will receive a $46,740 grant through the Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program.
The money will be issued by the program’s Operations and Firefighting Safety Program, which provides money for training, equipment, wellness and fitness and modifications to stations.
“The Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program is a vital source of funds for our fire and rescue personnel, particularly in rural communities across Maine,” Collins and King said in a joint statement. “In order for our first responders to perform their duties, it’s critical that they have access to the necessary resources, like vehicles, equipment, and proper training. These federal funds will play a key role in ensuring that the China Village Fire Department is well-equipped to meet the demands of the job.”
The fire department is staffed by volunteers.
