Walk-athon planned Saturday in Stratton

The Dead River Area Historical Society will sponsor a walk-athon at 10 a.m. Saturday. Walkers will line up at the Stratton Elementary School parking lot continue along School Street, turning around at the site of the Old Dump two miles away, and return to the school parking lot. This will be a fun and fit activity for all ages. Refreshments and snacks will be provided at each mile marker.

AARP Driver Safety Class scheduled

An AARP Driver Safety Class will be offered at 12:30 a.m. Wednesday at Federated Church on Island Avenue. Participants 55 and older will get a discount on their vehicle insurance.

Certified medical examiners recognized

Two members of Maine-General’s Workplace Health staff have become Kennebec County’s first certified medical examiners qualified to provide physical examinations for commercial motor vehicle (CMV) drivers.

Lawrence graduate heading to Ecuador

Bobby Belanger, a 2010 graduate of Lawrence High School, recently was named one of 18 University of New England students that will travel to Quito, Ecuador, this month on a medical mission. He will leave on May 13.

Annual Cinco de Mayo canoe race, fun paddle Sunday

The University of Maine at Farmington Fitness and Recreation Center is offering a Cinco de Mayo canoe/kayak race and fun run paddle on Sunday on the Sandy River. Sponsored by the FRC’s “Mainely Outdoors” outdoor recreation program, this canoe/kayak race and fun paddle was created to kick off the spring with a fun opportunity to promote fitness while enjoying the outdoors.
