Police are trying to determine what killed a woman whose body a child discovered Tuesday on a lawn on Longwood Avenue.
Augusta Police Lt. Christopher Massey said the body of the 44-year-old woman was released to the state medical examiner to determine a cause of death. He said there is nothing so far that indicates the woman was a victim of foul play.
“It does not appear to be suspicious,” Massey said. “There was no obvious sign of a cause of death.”
The body was discovered around 10:30 a.m. Tuesday by an 11-year-old girl. The body was on the back lawn of a vacant house, Massey said. He said it does not appear the body had been there very long.
The girl told her parents, who confirmed the discovery and called police.
Longwood Avenue is in a residential neighborhood off Riverside Drive in the the northeast end of the city.
