A Massachusetts man was killed Friday afternoon when the truck he was driving on U.S. Route 201 in Solon veered off the road, rolled over and crashed into trees, police said.

Paul R. Niemczyk, 68, of Blackstone, Massachusetts, was pronounced dead at the scene, according to a news release from the Somerset County Sheriff’s Office.

The single-vehicle accident, reported at 2:57 p.m., occurred near the South Solon Road intersection. Sheriff’s deputies found the 2007 GMC truck had been driving north when it rolled over, trapping Niemczyk. The truck was destroyed.

Solon, Madison and Skowhegan fire department crews also responded, along with emergency responders. Niemczyk was trapped in the overturned truck for nearly an hour as responders tried to extricate him.

Deputy Joe Jackson is the case investigator, and he was assisted by Cpl. David Cole.
