AUGUSTA — A car accident snapped a utility pole on Winter Street just before 10 p.m. Tuesday, cutting off power to one building.

Police at the scene blocked off both ends of the one-block street between Winthrop and Bridge streets.

A CMP worker at the scene cut up the pole with a chain saw, cleared away the debris and removed electrical wires that had fallen onto the pavement.

A CMP spokesperson said the accident appeared to cut the electricity service of only one customer. Power was out to that Winter Street building from 9:53 p.m. Tuesday to 5:35 a.m. Wednesday.

Police could not be reached to provide details of the accident, but police dispatch records indicate no one was taken to the hospital from the accident scene.
