Thousands of residents in the Gardiner area reported power outages Monday late in the afternoon.

The outages were caused by a dump truck owned by McGee Construction of West Gardiner, “coming into contact with a transmission line” off of U.S. Route 201 in Gardiner, according to Catharine Hartnett, a spokesperson for Central Maine Power Co.

Gardiner, Farmingdale, Litchfield, Pittson and West Gardiner were among the towns affected.

As of 6:30 p.m. 312 Kennebec County customers still were without power.

“Originally we had 7,200 customers without power,” Hartnett said. “We were able to restore power to some. We expect to restore power to the rest” this evening.

According to Hartnett no injuries were reported.

McGee Construction was closed and unable to be reached by press time.
