The Lawrence varsity and junior varsity field hockey girls will host a car wash fundraiser from 3 to 6 p.m. Friday, July 22, at Grass Eater’s 177 College Ave. facility in Waterville. Car washes will be by donation only to raise funds and the girls also will collect any bottles, cans and deposit-option returnables, according to a news release from Lawrence Field Hockey Boosters.

All proceeds raised will benefit the Victory Over Violence Field Hockey Tournament that has 10 high school teams (Lawrence, Skowhegan, Nokomis, Mt. Blue, Winslow, Messalonskee, MCI, Dexter, Erskine and Winthrop) raising money towards the Family Violence Project to help end domestic violence. Last year, Lawrence, Skowhegan, Nokomis and Mt. Blue participated in the first inaugural event and raised more than $16,000 at the field hockey round robin. This year’s goal is looking significantly higher.

Bruce Salisbury, owner of Grass Eater’s, offered his facility when he heard of the girls’ efforts and is not only donating a location but also car wash supplies.

The goal of Victory Over Violence is to inspire people, especially young people to identify and counteract the root causes of violence in their lives, homes, schools, and local communities through awareness, introspection, individual empowerment and a creative commitment to dialogue and action, according to a news release from the Boosters.
