More gun control is not the answer
Words utterly fail to describe the shock, horror, sadness, anger and disbelief I felt when I heard about the tragedy in Newtown, Conn. I can't understand how such a sick, evil monster can walk among us undetected.

Why not flotation devices for snow machines?
Every year in Maine, we lose loved ones through the ice on our lakes and rivers. We already have laws about safety vests for boaters, so why don't we have the same law for snow machines?

Those whose basic goal is acquiring wealth without concern for the welfare of the people should be reminded about the signers of the Declaration of Independence. Many of them lost their personal fortune for us to be a democracy.

In the late 1960s, I was active in cross-country and track and set some records in those events. My senior year I broke the 4-minute time for the mile, with a time of 3.58.6, while running the 2-mile at Waterville High School.

Goodbye to an Albion fixture in history
I'm sorry to see the closing of Keay's store in Albion. My brother and I spent summers at our grandparent's house, the Abbott House, two doors down from the store.
