Gun right protects us from the government
I have been reading the letters to the editor for some time and have written a few. I have come to these conclusions. Some of you would rather give this country over to our enemies then go against your political party. Others try to put new meaning into our laws and our Constitution. Are kindergartners entitled to carry weapons?
I was interested to read David Trahan's article, "Maine Compass" ("The Maine Constitution affirms owning firearms is individual right," Jan. 17), regarding the right of all citizens to own guns, in particular, as protected in the Maine Constitution (1987 Amendment to Article 1, Section 16).

Why not flotation devices for snow machines?
Every year in Maine, we lose loved ones through the ice on our lakes and rivers. We already have laws about safety vests for boaters, so why don't we have the same law for snow machines?
