Plant identification workshop planned
WILTON -- The Maine Forest Service in cooperation with the Franklin County Soil and Water Conservation District will hold an invasive plant identification and control workshop 8:30-11:30 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 25, at the Wilton Town office on Route 156.

Oakland’s Smedberg receives recognition
OAKLAND -- Casey Smedberg of Oakland, a senior at Gordon College, with a double major in English and political science, spent her junior year at Oxford University in England. She also achieved a 3.97 grade-point average at Gordon while studying at Wycliffe College at Oxford University.

Dorey to talk at the Hartland Public Library
HARTLAND -- Author Annette Vance Dorey will give an illustrated talk about her new book, "Maine Mothers Who Murdered 1875-1925: Doing Time in State Prison" and share stories about the research and creating the book at 3 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 22 at the library, 16 Mill St. The event will be held in the library meeting room and light refreshments will be served.

Belgrade campers learn about recycling
BELGRADE -- Belgrade Recreation Department's Camp Golden Pond and Camp Loon for Teens campers spent the summer recycling craft, lunch and snack trash. During the first week participants attended the Chewonki presentation "A Zero Waste World: Imagine That!" hosted by the Belgrade Public Library. Participants learned how important recycling is.

Health outreach services available at fair
FARMINGTON -- The Healthy Community Coalition of Greater Franklin County recently announced that its staff will provide outreach services Sept. 16-22 at the Farmington Fair. Look for the mobile health unit, which will be at its usual location near the grandstand.

Area youths win photo contest
WATERVILLE -- National Imagemakers photography contest recently announced a photo by Sebastian Bouchard was named best in the 10-12 age group, black-and-white category. It was later announced that Madisyn Collier also won first place in Atlanta, Collier's color Christmas photo was named best in the 13-15 age group.

Taylor benefit a success for Hospice of Maine
LEXINGTON -- Danny Taylor teamed up with Happy Horseshoe Campground owners "Buster" and Judy Pinkham earlier this summer to host a Hospice benefit at the campground. Taylor donated his time and talents to put on a musical program, while the Pinkham's hosted a silent auction and a bean hole bean supper and a 50/50 raffle with all proceeds benefitting the Cancer Hospice of Maine.
