Constitution needs 21st century upgrade
Freedom is a word tossed around quite a bit these days. Just how this freedom comes depends on to whom you talk.

I read Mike Harmon's recent column about Luddites and wind power with some interest.

Jury system’s life expectancy drops with verdict
I'm 82. When grocery shopping with tongue in cheek, I humorously wonder if I'm going to outlive the orange juice dated good for three months or the AA batteries claimed effective for 10 years. Lately, I get a similar but serious sense about the life expectancy of our country's jury system, when public gangsterism breaks out following jury trial verdicts in high-profile criminal cases.

Let’s return Maine to powerhouse status
Solvent government must be a priority. It serves also as an example to us. There will always be vote seekers who cater to those who want a soft berth in life. Divided authority can be a handicap to progress.

Republicans’ brains seem to be constipated
After watching the news and all the hearings that are going on in Congress, it seems to me that the Republican/tea party are not talking about what the American people want, which is jobs and getting the economy moving. They were elected to do the American people's business, not their own agenda.

I was in a grocery store recently and saw a woman and two young girls in the bakery department.
