    Today, King likely would advocate for animal rights

    On the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr.'s famed "I Have a Dream Speech," I am guessing that today, King would still be espousing the principles that he did in 1963: racial equality, justice for the oppressed and nonviolence.

    School shouldn’t start until after Labor Day

    I feel the urge to comment on the Aug. 23 editorial in the Morning Sentinel. I agree with an after Labor Day start to the school year. I disagree with the assumptions made that a later start "puts low-income kids at a disadvantage."

    Drivers need to watch carefully for bicyclists

    I have a reminder for all fellow drivers: When they see someone on their bicycle on the road, they should be careful and not pass a car that has stopped for them in a crosswalk. They may hit them.

    Let’s give the A-F grading system a chance to work

    In recent news articles, the A-F grading system, which was just implemented, has been perceived in a negative light. I am intrigued to see the results from this system after it has had some time to be put into effect. Many of the administrators quoted in the articles agree that it is nice to have all of the information in one database. So what is the problem?
