Merger reasons should give pause for concern
This is in response to Rep. Robert Nutting's, R-Oakland, (Maine Compass, Oct. 24) concern that Sprint is spreading false e-mails on the AT&T acquisition of T-Mobile. If Nutting doesn't think these jobs are at risk as a result of the merger than he does not understand corporate finance and strategy. It has nothing to do with Sprint and everything to do with fundamental reasons for any merger -- i.e. revenue growth and leverage.

Deal in facts, Democrats, and stop blaming Bush
Isn't it amazing how some people can twist facts and tell half truths to make a person sound bad, when in fact they really do not know the facts (i.e. Carol Roux, letter, Oct. 30).

Expand access to treatment to aid addcits
Based on my observations and knowledge with Suboxone, it needs to be easier to prescribe and easier for people to obtain from their physicians and clinics. There are many people who have stated that they would be clean if they could simply get a prescription of Suboxone; these people need to be helped.

Smith: Skilled negotiator ready for the council
I have known and worked with David Smith for over 10 years. He was chairman of the Augusta Planning Board when I joined. He was then and continues to be passionate about the future of Augusta. I watched and learned much from him about city government. His interpersonal skills with the other board members and the public coming before the board were outstanding.

Vose’s interest in a better Augusta is clear
I am writing in support of Corey Vose and his bid for a City Council-At-Large seat. Through my experiences coaching youth athletics, I've had the pleasure of meeting Corey. His love of his family and commitment to his community are attributes that I soon learned about him. I have witnessed him interacting with young children in ice hockey, soccer and baseball, where he takes an interest in each child's love and knowledge of the game.

Baffling traffic behavior
On a recent Friday, I was at the light on Elm Street waiting for a green so I could cross the intersection at Post Office Square.

A dire need for local hospital beds
Is it not sad that our loved ones cannot find a bed in a secure unit in Waterville and have to go many miles from home and family, and friends have to travel miles to see them? With a beautiful hospital like Seton, not in use. The cost would not be great as it is already a hospital.

This divided country cannot stand
This country is even more divided now then it was in the Civil War. We have to stop blaming each other for things we have all let happen.
