What’s most important to me as an ordinary citizen is that the people who represent me in the Legislature listen to me.

Professor Joseph Reisert’s defense of freedom of speech (column, “We will never apologize for law protecting freedom of expression,” Sept. 21) is a strong statement of what Americans believe: We have a constitutional right to voice even derogatory ideas with impunity.

It’s been hard to escape all the yard signs announcing the names of candidates running for office.

Patsy Crockett, Democratic candidate for House District 57, understands taxes and small business.

I believe Corey Wilson would make a wonderful representative for District 56, covering the east side of Augusta.

I strongly oppose releasing 16 forensic patients from Riverview hospital; eight to 14 Glenridge Drive and eight to 22-24 Green St.

I have no problem with Chris Conway’s opinion in the Kennebec Journal on Sept. 12. I gave my opinion, which was my right, but it was not done lightly nor without a tremendous amount of reading and going into things in depth.

I am pleased to write this letter to the editor in support of Catherine Nadeau, a Winslow town councilor who is the Democratic candidate for House District 54, representing Winslow and Benton.

A resident of House District 57, I plan to vote for Democrat Patsy Crockett to represent me in the Legislature.

As an independent voter, I am often fed up with politicians who seem more concerned with winning an argument than winning back Maine’s future.
