    Appeal to thieves to bring metal cat back home

    Two woman in a small blue car pulled up in front of my driveway, walked up to the front of my trailer and stole a metal cat. We bought that cat for my mother's funeral; it meant the world to me.

    Coal far and away fuel that is hardest on climate

    In his July 7 column, Charles Krauthammer criticizes the U.S. decision to use less coal, which harms the climate. He grudgingly concedes, at least for purposes of argument, that human activity is significantly damaging the climate, something 97 percent of the members of the National Academy of Sciences recognize.

    A document that's held dear by most Americans is the Declaration of Independence. It states, in clear and certain terms, an intent to separate from Great Britain, and as importantly, to list the many reasons leading to that decision.

    I was horrified to read about the derailment and subsequent explosion of a train carrying crude oil in Quebec on July 6. This Montreal, Maine & Atlantic Railways train was headed for Maine.

    Expenses are landlord’s cost of doing business

    Albert Bailey (letter, “Owning house costs more than renting one,” July 5) makes some good points, but the expenses he cites are part of my landlord’s cost of doing business.
